Oulu Sinfonia and Jyväskylä Sinfonia join forces for two concerts celebrating Oulu’s European Capital of Culture year.
Pablo Mielgo leads Oulu Sinfonia and Jyväskylä Sinfonia in Giuseppe Verdi’s Messa da Requiem on 29 and 30 October 2026 in Jyväskylä and Oulu. This collaboration brings together both Finnish orchestras with the Jyväskylä Opera Choir and four soloists: soprano Marjukka Tepponen, mezzo-soprano Melissa Zgouridi, tenor Markus Nykänen and bass Matti Turunen.
The programme takes the audience into one of the great works of the symphonic choral repertoire. Verdi’s dramatic intensity, his vocal writing and the dialogue between choir and orchestra turn the Requiem into an experience of profound emotion, moving between the power of the famous Dies irae and the most intimate passages of reflection and hope.
The performances take place on 29 October at 18:00 in Encore Hall at Paviljonki in Jyväskylä, and on 30 October at 18:30 in Madetoja Hall in Oulu, with both concerts sold out. Official concert information.
The Oulu concert forms part of the Oulu2026 cultural programme, celebrating the city as European Capital of Culture and placing artistic collaboration at the heart of this year of encounters through culture. Official programme for the concert in Oulu.
